To start, let me introduce myself; I am Dani, independent photographer and I live in The Hague with love of my life and creative partner Jonas and our wonderful son Raaf, who just turned one. The Hague is a great, lively city to live in for young and old, especially in the summer it’s lovely to spend your days on the Hague’ beaches. But thankfully there is enough to do in the winter as well!
First of all of course… HAPPY NEW YEAR!
At the end of the year, a lot of people look back on what this year has brought them but they also make plans and good resolutions for the next. I think losing weight and exercising are number 1 in the top 10 of new year resolutions, but not on my list. I love sweets and food way too much to let that go! So when my niece was with us for a weekend, I went to Bij Lotje for something sweet.
They call themselves the sweetest shop of the Zeeheldenkwartier! Bij Lotje is more than an icecreamshop, if you want to warm up during the cold winterdays, go in for some hot chocolate with whipped cream ánd marshmallows. After that comes the difficult choice of what to get with that… a warm waffle, one of the homemade pastries or do you prefer finger ice or an ice-chocolate? Enough to choose from if you – like me – like sweet! Apart from that, it’s a great place for kids parties as well.
After this sugar rush it’s worth the trouble to go around the corner and walk down the Piet Heinstraat. This street is filled with many cute and surprising shops. Take a look at Studio/Gallery the Kunstvlieg for some special artworks. The Kunstvlieg offers artistic days for people with a disability under the leadership of Frans Vierling who will give you a warm welcome to admire and maybe even take home the various artworks of the contestants.
And my new year resolutions? I don’t really do those, but let’s call it plans. I plan to keep enjoying my family, make a lot of beautiful work, extend my own blog www.uitdemaat.nl and mostly appreciate how good our life actually is.
Monday till Sunday 11.00-17.30
