Let me introduce myself; my name is Myra, I’m a lawyer and mother of twe sons Just (2010) and Quinten (2012). I live in Amsterdam, with my boyfriend and two kids. Regularly I go out with the boys on Friday, my day off. Of course my boys are super sweet ;) but also real boys who make a lot of noise, knocking over things, making a mess and want to run around. So you can assume that wherever I’m going and whatever I’m doing is in any case “kids proof”!
Fall is my favorite time of year to go into the forest. Fresh breeze, beautiful colors and often a lovely sun. The boys love it too; a lot of space and sticks to play with everywhere and tree-trunks to climb. Getting dirty and warming up with a hot chocolate at home, love it!
The nearest forest for us is the Amsterdam forest and at the beginning of it, you’ll find the forest store. Starting at the forest store you can do all kinds of activities and one of them is the forest gnome trail ‘Boskabouterpad’. At the forest store you can pick op your quest, gnome hats, magnifying-glass-jars and a nice badge and you’re ready to go.
Happy walking tour through the forest
The ‘Boskabouterpad’ is a walk of about 30-45 minutes and you can follow it by looking for the poles with the gnomes. On the quest map are all kinds of clues and fun challenges, so the kids don’t even notice they’re walking. There is even a true gnome house made in a big tree, the boys were super excited..!
The disappointment was huge when we didn’t find real gnomes, but after my explanation that gnomes sleep during the day, that was over quick :)
On the way all caterpillars, worms and spiders went into the jar, so the boys could thoroughly look at them afterwards (to my horror).
The Boskabouterpad is fit for kids from 3 to 6 years old according to the website, but my youngest son (2) liked it too. You can walk whenever you like, the forest store is open from Tuesday till Sunday from 10 am till 5pm. Just the quest you can buy for € 1,50 (and is also available in English), the Boskabouter-bag (including gnomehat, magnifying glass jar and challenges) you can buy for € 7,50. You can find more information here.
Check out the Forest calendar, for other fun activities at the forest store. We did the forestanimals-walk a while ago, very fun too!
